If you're considering a break away at Sea View Cottage, you're probably wondering… what is there to do in Frinton?

To help you decide if my little cottage is the right destination for your seaside getaway on the Essex coast, I’ve pulled together a gentle guide to seaside days, simple pleasures and local favourites — all just a short stroll from the front door.

🏖️ The Beach (of course)

Wide sandy shores, pastel beach huts and none of the usual seaside noise. No arcades, no crowds… just space to breathe.

Frinton beach has a wonderfully calm, unspoilt feel that’s becoming harder to find.

Whether it’s morning coffee with a sea view, long dog walks, or a full day of buckets and spades (there’s a small set of beach toys at the cottage for little ones), the beach is probably the main reason guests return year after year.

It’s a very worthy top spot in any list of things to do in Frinton-on-Sea — especially as it’s been awarded prestigious Blue Flag status in both 2024 and 2025.

If you’re bringing your dog, the beach is dog friendly too, with seasonal restrictions in place for the central section between May and September. You might also like my guide to other dog friendly beaches across North Essex.

Tip: You can even hire a beach hut for the day — a lovely way to make it feel extra special.

🛍️ Meander Along Connaught Avenue (Frinton High Street)

Frinton’s high street is a proper throwback in the best way. Think independent shops, bakeries, delis, wine and beer merchants, florists, and some brilliant charity shop treasure hunting.

It’s not about rushing — it’s about wandering, browsing and maybe stopping for cake or an ice cream along the way.

You’ll also find all the essentials covered, with a Co-op, a small Sainsbury’s and a Cook shop — perfect for stocking the fridge and keeping your stay easy and relaxed.

☕ Cafés, Treats & Easy Lunches in Frinton-on-Sea

You’re never far from a good coffee here. In fact, Frinton does cafés very well.

There are so many to choose from, but a few favourites include:

  • Tiny Bloom Play Cafe – perfect if you’ve got little ones

  • Pop-Pins - a retro 1950's ice cream palour

  • The Art of Frinton – part café, part art space

  • Bird & Bean - vibrant, vegan-friendly with a lovely patio area

  • Hungry Bedouin - mediterranean brasserie, deli & coffee shop

Plus plenty of classic seaside tea rooms for cake and a proper cuppa.

Many are dog friendly too, so your four-legged friend doesn’t have to miss out. You might also like my blog on 10 dog friendly things to do in Frinton-on-Sea.

🌿 Frinton's Gardens & Green Spaces

Frinton has a lovely quiet charm, and its green spaces are a big part of that.

  • The Crescent Gardens - a hidden gem near the sea front with ornamental grasses, winding paths and colourful planting

  • The open garden by the station - small but beautifully kept

  • The Greenswards - wide stretches of grass above the beach, perfect for picnics, games, kite flying or simply soaking in the coastal views

Perfect for a slow wander on a sunny morning.

🎭 Culture & Events in Frinton-on-Sea

For a small town, Frinton punches well above its weight.

  • Frinton Literary Festival – a six day event in late October celebrating books, writers and ideas

  • McGrigor Hall –hosts many local events, shows and community gatherings

(A little note - I do still have availability during the Literary Festival, so feel free to get in touch if you’re thinking of visiting then.)

⛳ Sport & Leisure activities in Frinton

If you fancy something active:

  • Frinton Golf Club – an 18 hole course with a traditional links feel

  • Frinton Lawn Tennis Club – grass and all-weather courts, plus gym and clubhouse

  • Water Sports nearby - including paddleboarding and kitesurfing along this stretch of coast

  • Frinton-on-Sea Swimmers - join a friendly local Facebook group for a bracing, sociable dip in the sea

  • Frinton Cricket Club - worth checking fixtures if you enjoy a relaxed afternoon of cricket

It’s all very relaxed — no pressure, just enjoy it.

🍴 Restaurants & Takeaways

Whether you’re heading out or staying in, there’s a great selection of restaurants and take-aways in Frinton to choose from:

  • Relaxed restaurants such as Different, Stanley’s, Hungry Bedouin and Osteria del Mare

  • Fish and chips by the sea (a must at least once) from Young’s Other Plaice

  • Takeaways to bring back and enjoy at the cottage — including both Chinese and Indian options

Sometimes the best plan is simple: food, a drink, and the sound of the waves.

💛 Why People Love It Here

Frinton isn’t about doing everything. It’s about doing less… better.

  • Slow mornings.

  • Fresh sea air.

  • Simple routines that somehow feel like a proper break.

And that’s exactly why so many guests return year after year.
