Over the years guests staying at my holiday let, Sea View Cottage in Frinton-on-Sea, have filled several guest books with some really lovely comments about their stay.
Reading through them recently made me realise that certain things come up again and again. From cosy evenings in the cottage to beach walks with dogs, these are some of the things guests say they love most about their stay.
Here are 10 things guests often mention about Sea View Cottage.
1. A Real Home From Home

One of the things guests mention most often is how comfortable and welcoming the cottage feels.
Sea View Cottage is designed to feel relaxed and homely rather than formal - a true home from home by the sea. Hence my new logo design!

“Just like a home away from home.” (Guest book – Jul 2025)
Another kindly said:
“Jo has made the cottage a home from home.” (Guest book – Feb 2025)
2. The Homemade Lemon Drizzle Cake and Fizz

After a journey, it’s always nice to arrive to a little welcome waiting.
Guests at Sea View Cottage are greeted with homemade lemon drizzle cake, tea, coffee, milk and a bottle of fizz, ready to enjoy once they’ve settled in.

“Thank you for the cake and wine, we will be back!” (Guest book – Aug 2025)

4. A Short Walk to the Beach

Sea View Cottage is around 500 yards from the beach, making it an easy walk for a morning stroll or an evening wander along the promenade.
When the tide goes out, the gently sloping beach reveals wide stretches of golden sand and seemingly endless views along the shoreline.

5. Family Friendly for Little Ones

Sea View Cottage works well for families with younger children, with a bunk bedroom and a few helpful extras to make travelling easier.
I really hope that these small touches help make the cottage feel more like home, especially when travelling with younger children.
Guests with little ones will find things like:
a high chair
retractable stair gates
children’s cutlery and crockery
a toy box in the bunk room
and a travel cot available on request

6. Peaceful Frinton-on-Sea

Many guests love the relaxed atmosphere of Frinton-on-Sea, which feels calmer and less crowded than some seaside towns.
The wide Greensward stretches along the seafront, providing a lovely open space with views across the sea and plenty of room to sit, stroll or simply watch the world go by.
Just a short walk away, the quintessential high street is lined with a mix of independent cafés, small shops and local businesses, giving the town its friendly and welcoming feel.
“What a lovely place Frinton-on-Sea is.” (Guest book – Sep 2024)
Guests also enjoy the many walks nearby.
“Enjoyed the walks along the sea wall both ways with the dogs.” (Guest book – Nov 2024)
7. Clean, Comfortable, Cosy and Well Equipped

Guests often comment on how clean and well equipped the cottage is.
I personally complete the changeover each time, ensuring the cottage is spotlessly clean and perfectly prepared for the next set of guests.
The kitchen has all mod cons and is located on a quiet residential street with free on-street parking right outside.
“Very clean, comfortable and quiet.” (Guest book – Apr 2025)
"Very cosy and we used the wood stove every evening." (Guest book – Nov 24)

8. The Enclosed Garden

The long enclosed west facing garden is a real bonus for guests travelling with dogs or children, or just the two of you.
It’s a lovely space to relax after a day out exploring the coast. Capturing the afternoon sun, it has a table and chairs, and parasol in the warner months, perfect for alfresco dining.
“The garden was a real plus for us with the afternoon sun especially appreciated.” (Guest book – Aug 2025)
“The garden was beautiful and my dogs especially loved it.” (Guest book – May 2025)

Guests often find the written welcome information useful when planning their stay, which gets sent electronically to all guests before they arrive.

10. Guests Returning Again and Again to Sea View Cottage

One of the nicest things to read in the guest book is when guests return for another stay.
I'm so lucky to have a great set of returning guests, who come back year on year and never seem to tire of the cottage, the sea walks and Frinton-on-Sea.
“Our 3rd visit to Sea View Cottage, once again we’ve had an amazing time.” (Guest book – Mar 2023)
